Spirit often communicates with us. Usually it’s a very subtle communication, a quick ‘hello’ with a feather dropped, a ‘thinking of you’ with coin in your pathway. Perhaps you’ll see a message in the clouds in the sky. Perhaps get a sign from an Animal Guide. As you become aware of the signs you're getting, the easier their interpretation will be. Sometimes it's very difficult to grasp what the message is. Spirit seems to think with a small hint we'll figure it out. But as you become aware and pay attention, the easier it is to connect the message with a concern you're trying to figure out. One time I got three signs in one day, at a time when a major decision was needed.
It was an eventful day, as far as Spirit offering me guidance. If only I allow myself to see it.
The Praying Mantis was on the windowsill at work. She was large and seemed to be staring out the window. I wondered what she was seeing. The Mantis can reveal secrets. She rests and waits in a prayer-like attitude, seeming to imply that inner silence and looking inside instead of outward can reveal knowledge we need to have. Beauty and Ugliness are only skin deep, so look carefully at the behavior not the appearance. Was I not seeing something because I was looking with blinders? Was I taking too much at face value?
The next sign of guidance came from Antelope. On a short drive out of town I spotted him grazing on a small hillside. I pulled over. He raised his head, seemed to gaze directly at me, then calmly went back to his dinner. The Antelope can see a great distance. Its horn and large eyes allow it a wide angle of vision. He spoke of keeping your eyes open, of being aware of things around you. New opportunities seemed to show up when Antelope made an appearance. Would I miss an opportunity because I wasn’t paying attention? Was I not seeing what was right in front of me?
Looking within. Seeing outside. Contradictory, yes, but not to be dismissed because of it. Sometimes, well most of the time, you had to figure the messages out. I believe Spirit thinks we are much smarter than we actually are.
Up next was Owl. Magnificent and powerful Owl. I parked in a small clearing, grabbing a lawn chair from the back. The sun was lowering in the western sky, painting the sky the most glorious colors as I sat down. Circling overhead was Owl. It wasn’t a quick flight and abrupt disappearance. He soared above my head for several minutes, coming close, circling out. I couldn’t take my eyes off his beautiful flight. What message did he bring? The Owl holds many meanings. Magic, Omens, Wisdom, Healing, and even Death in some people’s eyes.
To me, Owl is one of the most powerful Totems. I get a sense of healing when he shows up in my life. The last time he made an appearance was four years ago, after my granddaughter’s premature birth. He brought great hope and healing that time. I trust him to do the same now.
