A SIGN FROM OWL

Writer's picture: KarenKaren

We get signs, encouragement, messages from Spirit all the time in many different ways. Sometimes they’re obvious, sometimes we have to interpret what they mean. One of my most profound messages came several years ago after the birth of my one-pound granddaughter. I questioned why over and over. I prayed for healing minute by minute as I watched her struggle to breathe, her

fight to survive. My sister came and found me on the verge of a complete meltdown. One evening we left the hospital and took a ride in the foothills to look at the stars, one of my favorite ways to relax and regroup. As I looked up at the vast unending sky, feeling a connection to the One and Everything, I asked for a sign that our baby would be all right. On the drive home as we wound down the mountain road and around a curve, I suddenly had to stop. There, standing in the middle of the road, was a huge great Owl. I stopped the car and stuck my head out the window. It’s bright gold eyes seemed to stare right at me, holding me mesmerized in its gaze for several long minutes. I felt a peace come over me and I knew this was the sign I’d asked for.

I just had to figure out what it meant.

I researched the Owl and as usual, I took what I read and learned and held onto that which resonated with me, that which had meaning for me. I learned courage and ferocity were qualities of Owl, enabling him to survive and adapt. I learned Owl Medicine had great healing power. The yellow coloring of the eyes was also symbolic, hinting of the light of sun in the dark of night.

I drew comfort from the strength of Owl and his powerful medicine through my granddaughter’s journey to survive. I’m happy to say she is a beautiful, loving twelve-year-old today.
